Limited Retrospect

Last week I told you about a pending draft that took place the same night my article went up. The draft was a great deal of fun and I ended in second place after starting out 0-2 (1-2, 1-2). I initially was planning on mentioning the draft as the first part of my article, but I realized I would be better of using my draft as a means to falsify/verify the assumptions and hypotheses I discussed last week. Be prepared for a not-quite-ordinary draft/tournament report! Continue reading

Limited Information

Last week I made a promise to revisit Intihuatana this week. Turns out that’s not entirely true. I will give you a deck, but it’ll have to wait until next week. You see, the moment this article goes up is around the time me and my friends will be drafting Innistrad. I love drafting; I love it so much that the last time we drafted, it was Rise of the Eldrazi! Yes, it’s sad, isn’t it? Still, every draft is such fun and a great way to revisit old Magic memories and make some new ones. To make a long story short: this week will be about draft: draft in general, Innistrad in particular, and how my group tends to draft. Continue reading

The Walking Dead Flare

After a few hypothetical decks centered around Chandra the Firebrand, it is time to unleash a real deck, my second deck with Innistrad cards. It is one of the decks that I sort-of previewed a few weeks ago right after Innistrad came out, albeit a bit different from what I did there. Still, it’s good to see good ideas not going to waste. Welcome to the world of the walking dead… flare. Continue reading

Scattered mind

Last week I was about to give you a whole lot of deck ideas I got when Innistrad came out. Since I am genetically unable to write short texts, I had to cut that part off of last week’s article and make it into a new one. But hey, at least I don’t have to worry about coming up with a new topic, eh? But let’s cut the small-talk and pointless chit-chat about the birds and the bees when we should be talking about werewolves, zombies, humans, flashback, slime, and a whole lot more! That new set smell

Innistrad marks the end of a spoiler season and simultaneously the beginning of a new one: one of exploration of unknown waters. The whole set is out and brewers and players from around the world try to figure out what the cards do for metagames new and old alike. What cards will impact the casual tables? What interactions will populate the Sunday tables at the next Pro Tour? Every single set has, at least for me, a common pattern in how you react to it upon release and thereafter. What happens when all is new and shiny? Continue reading
